Thimble Holder

This article describes to the reader thimble holders, several different situations where a thimble holder may be useful and even what kind of materials or other ordinary objects can be used for thimble holders.

Thimbles

Thimble holders are a great way to store your thimble collection while you are bringing them to a thimble convention to trade or sell them with others, if you are moving or otherwise re-locating your home or even if you just need to free up some space and get rid of some of the clutter around the house. Any serious thimble collector owns a thimble holder or two, or in some cases many.

A thimble holder can technically be anything from a plastic or paper bag to a cardboard box or a plastic cup or bowl – you can even get creative and use a ring holder to hold your thimbles, too. Even something as simple as an old plastic container you get after you develop film at the corner store will work to hold onto a portion of your thimble collection. Some thimble collectors, however, like to go all out for their collection and either buy or create thimble holders to help keep their personal collections in the best shape possible. Some people use carved wooden boxes to store their thimble collections; others choose to keep them on display for everyone to see in a glass, plastic or Lucite display case. Normally, these collectors own other thimble holders that they use in order to transport their collection whenever it is necessary to do so. The fact that thimbles are so small and you can fit so many in one non-bulky container makes moving your collection from place to place a breeze.

For some people collecting thimbles has reached its prime, and now they are in need of something simple to hold onto their thimble collections until they sell it, decide to get back into it or just stuff it away in a closet or attic and forget about it. Others look for an elaborate or fancy thimble holder in order to hold their most expensive or otherwise favorite thimbles of their collections. These holders may be made out of any number of materials and could possibly be painted or otherwise decorated to increase the visual appeal of both the holder and the thimbles inside.

Collecting thimbles, as like with any hobby can be a fun and entertaining pass time. However, after a while you will notice that these small little collector’s items accumulate face, and you will soon be in need of a thimble holder to store or maybe even showcase your collection.
