Thimbles
Believe it or not vintage thimbles are quite popular still today, and have now more than ever become quite the collector’s item with some vintage thimbles ranging all the way in price from a couple dollars to a couple hundred dollars or more. It all depends on the collector, the condition of the thimble, the exact year it was made, the materials it was made out of and if it has any kind of extra decorations such as paint, bead, semi precious gem stones or anything similar that may increase the value.
Vintage thimbles can be found everywhere from flea markets and thimble conventions and trade shows, to yard sales or even a family member’s old attic full of junk. You never know when that gem of a vintage thimble is going to show up – and you never know how much someone else might be willing to pay you for that vintage thimble if it is a piece that might be able to complete a collection. You never know of course, until you do a bit of research either on the internet or at a convention near your home. Even if you can’t get an exact quote on your piece from one of these sources, you can most likely browse around as long as it takes you to find a similar vintage thimble. After you’ve found something that is most like your own vintage thimble, you can use that at least as a starting point to try and figure out the exact value of your piece.
Some vintage thimbles may have been issued by an old company that is no longer around, or even a company that has switched products, etc. Since thimbles have been around for years, finding vintage thimbles is really not a hard task – it is finding that one particular vintage thimble that you’ve been in search of for years that provides the greatest challenge. For some however, this is the best aspect that there is about collecting vintage thimbles.
Whatever way you go about it, know that your love of vintage thimbles is shared by many, many people all over the world. What better way to connect and share your thoughts, ideas and vintage thimble collections than by using the World Wide Web and trade shows or vintage thimble collections. You could even join a thimble collecting club in order to further your exposure to vintage thimbles – if one doesn’t exist in your area, create it yourself!
